About the event
Experience the power of taiko - Japanese drumming that blends music, movement, culture, and community!
In this lively, hands-on session, participants will feel the drum’s energy & vibration, explore traditional festival rhythms, and learn kuchishōga (vocal rhythm language) to make rhythm accessible for all learners.
We’ll practice kata - proper taiko form - and discover how taiko is is fitness, meditation, dance, and a deeply collaborative art where many players move and play as one. Together, we’ll build a team-style piece that celebrates connection, creativity, and the joy of group drumming! No experience needed - just enthusiasm and a willingness to move!
Please note, the BYU Arts Express conference is intended for K-12 teachers and undergrad students who are going into education.
